Man Arrested with Gun Outside Johnston High School

It is unclear if the incident is connected to recent threats to area schools.

A 38-year-old Mississippi man was arrested Thursday afternoon outside Johnston High School after he tried to get in through a back door.

Johnston Police Dep. Chief Dan Parillo said that Jonathan Mikovich was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and disorderly conduct.

According to a message from the superintendent, the man drove into the school parking lot at around noon and knocked on a back door.

A teacher’s assistant refused to open the door, notified the principal and school resource officer and it wasn’t long until Johnston Police were at the scene.

Parents were notified via a robocall by Superintendent Bernard DiLullo Jr. and he said students remained safe through the entire incident.
