Panthers Face Prout in State Finals — Again
After a 10-1 victory over Westerly on June 11, Johnston returns to McCoy Stadium to face its opponent from the 2011 state finals.

The varsity baseball squad secured a berth in the state finals for the second straight year with a 10-1 drubbing of Westerly on June 11, and are scheduled to play Game 1 of the state finals today at 3:30 pm, weather permitting.
Scoring all 10 runs within the first three innings, the Panthers held Westerly to six hits and took advantage of three errors by the Bulldogs to earn a trip to McCoy Stadium for the Division II championship, the Providence Journal reported.

Every Panther had at least one hit in the game, with sophomore Joe Bongiovanni contributing 3 RBI, and seniors Gian Bianchi and Steve Pennacchia adding two RBI each, according to MaxPreps.com.
Prout squeaked past Woonsocket in game three of their Division II Final Four match-up with a 3-2 win on Tuesday night. A wild pitch allowed the Crusaders' Andrew Horsefield to score the winning run, the Providence Journal reported.

Last year, to take the state title. This season's appearance marks the fifth straight trip to the finals for the Crusaders, who have yet to capture the state crown.
