Pawtucket Man Pleads No Contest To Deadly New year's Day Crash

The Pawtucket man was charged with fleeing the rollover crash that killed his passenger.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Pawtucket man pleaded no contest to fleeing a deadly New Year's Day crash that claimed the life of his passenger.

Gregory Miller, 47, entered the plea Monday to one count of failure to stop after being involved in a crash that resulted in death and one count of driving to endanger resulting in death.

Miller and Nanleomariz Albizu, 34, were captured on video surveillance footage arriving at Bally’s Twin River Lincoln Casino prior to the early New Year's Day 2022 wreck, according to the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office.

"That morning, members of the Lincoln Police Department responded to Cobble Hill Road for a report of a roll-over vehicle crash," the attorney general's office said in a media release.

"Upon arriving at the scene, officers found that the driver of the vehicle, later identified as (Miller), had fled the scene," the release said. "Rescue personnel located ... Nanleomariz several yards away from the vehicle, unconscious and suffering from significant trauma to her head. Rescue personnel immediately transported Nanleomariz to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased."

Miller surrendered to police two days after the fatal crash, according to the release.

Miller's sentencing was scheduled for July 17.
