LINCOLN, RI — Scammers are posing as town of Lincoln and Lincoln School Department staff, police said.
"It has recently come to our attention that malicious emails are being sent to residents while pretending to be staff from the Town of Lincoln or the Lincoln School Department," the police department said in a social media post.
The emails may ask residents to purchase items, donate money, participate in unusual or urgent transactions, or provide personal or financial information, according to the post.
The police department recommended being "cautious with unexpected requests for money, purchases, or donations," verifying the "sender before responding," and refraining from clicking on suspicious links or opening unexpected attachments.
"If you're unsure, contact the organization directly using an official phone number or website," the post said. "Please share this post to help protect friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. Stay vigilant and stay safe!"
