Today's riddle: What did the bartender say to the jumper cables when they walked in? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Bally's has a cash problem. Rhode Island's casino revenue may not (oceanstatemedia.org) — Bally's recent financial warning has raised questions about the future of Rhode Island's two state-run casinos, including the one in Lincoln, but an economist says state revenue is largely protected. He explains that Rhode Island takes its share of casino income before Bally's, so any restructuring would likely hit shareholders first. Still, he warns that heavy reliance on gambling brings long-term social and economic trade-offs.
2. First Student union workers threaten strike amid breakdown in negotiations (turnto10.com) — Lincoln families could see school bus service disrupted as First Student drivers across eight Rhode Island districts, including Lincoln, prepare for a possible strike as early as Wednesday after contract talks stalled. Negotiations between the company and Teamsters Local 251 are continuing, but the union says members have already authorized a walkout that could also affect statewide out-of-district routes.
3. 6 arrested in Lincoln Woods (newportdispatch.com) — Rhode Island State Police based at the Lincoln Woods Barracks in Lincoln reported six arrests over two days on warrants and charges ranging from reckless driving to drug and weapons offenses. While most incidents occurred in Providence and Cranston, all suspects were processed through the Lincoln Woods facility, underscoring its central role in regional policing.
4. Alumni (brown.edu) — Brown/Hasbro's new pediatric alumni association highlights where recent graduates are practicing, including primary care at Lincoln Pediatrics and a separate primary care role in Lincoln. For Lincoln families, this means more locally trained pediatric and primary care doctors are choosing to serve nearby, strengthening access to child and family healthcare in town and across Rhode Island.
