2011 Playoffs: Islanders Lose to Hendricken, Face Elimination

Bishop Hendricken got some playoff revenge, handing the Islanders an 8-1 loss at home on Saturday.

The Boys Baseball team entered the Division I tournament as the #10 seed. They began an incredible playoff run to start the tournament, with wins over South Kingstown and the #2 seed, Bishop Hendricken. They seemed poised to continue that run when they hosted the Hawks at home at Gaudet Field on Saturday afternoon.

A win meant they would move on to the "final four" and eliminate Hendricken from the tournament.

Hendricken wasn't ready to let their 2011 season end just yet.

Middletown starting pitcher Armand Rugel, pitching on two days rest, had a tough time on the mound Saturday, allowing 7 runs in only three innings of work.

The Islanders mustered hardly any offense on Saturday. Hendricken junior pitcher Nick Bordeaut flat out shut down Middletown, allowing only one run over seven innings of work. Middletown made a small surge in the sixth and seventh but it was all for naught.  Bordeaut came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh and shut the Islanders down, picking up the win and setting the stage for an elimination game back at Hendricken today at 4 p.m.

Can the Islander boys rise up and move on to the final four, or will they see their season end on Sunday?

Check back here after the game to find out.
