• First Aquidneck Island-Wide Climate Resilience Plan Takes Shape (ecori.org) — Middletown is part of a new island-wide climate resilience plan that will shape how Aquidneck Island prepares for flooding, transportation disruptions, and housing and food challenges. Local residents, including Middletown's Jean Riesman, are helping define priorities through listening sessions, surveys, and outreach this fall, with a draft plan expected next spring and a final version in 2027 to guide concrete actions and investments.
   

• Newport spends more per resident on police and fire than any other Rhode Island community (whatsupnewp.com) — Middletown spends $888 per resident on combined police and fire services, more than neighboring Portsmouth and Little Compton but well below Newport's $1,586, according to a new statewide report. The analysis compares staffing, pension costs, and operational spending, noting Middletown devotes about 25 percent of its fire budget to day-to-day operations, far higher than Newport's share.
