
Robert F. Asher, 65, of Birchwood Dr., Portsmouth, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 after a three-month illness. He was the beloved husband of Judith Bulk Asher for 42 years.
Born in Newport, RI on May 19, 1945, he was the son of the late Dorothy Asher Webster and Howard F. Asher.
Robert graduated from Rogers High School in 1963 and received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1994.

He was a communicant of The Church of the Holy Cross in Middletown where he was the Senior Warden for the past 20 years. Robert was a member of the Newport Lodge of Elks No. 104, St. John’s Lodge No. 1, Excelsior Lodge No. 49 IOOF, St. John’s Fishing Club and St. John’s Athletic Club.
He owned and operated A&A Appliance and Alarm Service, Inc. from 1992-2010. Prior to that he was the New England Regional Service Manager for Diebold, Inc. for 22 years.

Bob was an avid walker. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, Aidan and Sadie. He also enjoyed his trips to Florida and New Hampshire.
Robert leaves a son, Robert F. Asher, Jr. of Middletown, a daughter, Stephanie E. Asher of West Palm Beach, FL, a grandson, Aidan J. Asher and a granddaughter, Sadie E. Asher. He also leaves a brother, Albert R. Asher of Westport, MA, and was the brother of the late Howard F. Asher, Jr. of New Orleans, LA. He leaves 8 nephews, 7 nieces, 13 great nephews, and 10 great nieces.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 11am at the Church of the Holy Cross, 1439 W. Main Rd., Middletown. Burial is private. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 28 from 4-7 pm in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport.
