Annual Military Appreciation Night

The Newport Navy League will hold Military Appreciation with Rear Admiral P. Gardner Howe III, Naval War College President as guest speaker.

The Newport County Council of the Navy League will hold its Annual Military Appreciation Night and Dinner Meeting at which Rear Admiral P. Gardner Howe III, President of the Naval War College (NWC) will be the Guest Speaker. Prior guest speakers and their posts at the time have included RADM David M. Duryea, Commander, Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC); RADM John N. Christenson, USN, President, Naval War College; RADM Mary E. Landry USCG (Ret), Director, Incident Management and Preparedness Policy, United States Coast Guard; ADM Timothy J Keating, Commander, U.S. Pacific Command; and ADM. Thad W. Allen, Commandant. U.S. Coast Guard. Honored guests for the dinner are the active duty local leaders and service members of the U.S. Navy; U.S. Marine Corps; U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Merchant Marine, including several service members who have recently received Awards from the Navy League for superior performance. The reception is a premier Northeast event at which citizens acknowledge the service and sacrifices of our Sea Service members and their families. The Navy League is a non-profit 501( c )3 membership organization whose primary mission is to foster and maintain interest in strong Sea Services leadership: Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine, as integral parts of a sound national defense and vital to the freedom and commerce of the United States. The Newport County Council NLUS was established July 29, 1957, it also supports and mentors three Sea Cadet units in the State, educating and training our youth in the customs and traditions of the Sea Services through an active and vigorous educational exposure to maritime activities, developing a sense of pride in our nation, positive qualities of patriotism, courage and self-reliance, confidence and strong moral character and good citizenship traits. The Colors will be presented by the NCBC Battalion Sea Cadet Color Guard unit. The Navy League membership and interested public are encouraged to attend the reception. Social hour at the Atlantic Beach Club is at 5:30PM at which attendees will have an opportunity to meet our service members, most of whom are from the Newport Navy Base and other RI, MA and CT Coast Guard, Marine and Merchant Marine installations, and Guest Speaker RADM Gardner. Dinner is at 6:30PM. The NCCNLUS Business meeting will be very brief Individual Tickets are $40 per civilian for a 3-course dinner with a military guest or two. Businesses are encouraged to support the effort by purchasing tables of 10 for $500 which will include 8 company seats and 2 military guests or half tables for $250 which will include 4 company seats and 1 military guest.
