Big Dig Coming to Upper Easton's Point

MIDDLETOWN, RI—Utility crews will soon be digging up portions of the Upper Easton's Point neighborhood for a sewer repair job.

About 100 sections of old sewer pipe must be replaced in the neighborhood North of Purgatory Road up to Prospect Avenue, the Town Council learned Monday.

A Bristol company, C.B. Utility Co., Inc., won the bid to take out the bad sections and install new pipe. The price is $985,625 and will come from the sewer fund.

Most of the pipe is too badly damaged for a less expensive fix, known as sliplining —inserting a smaller pipe inside an existing one and sealing the ends.

C.B. Utility was the low bidder for the job. East Coast Landscape and Construction, Inc., of Portsmouth, bid $1,462,272.

Purgatory, Reservoir and Ellery roads; and Warren, Prospect, Renfrew, Orchard, Briarwood, Seascape, Center, Allston, Center, Newport, Wolcott avenues are affected.

The Town will hold informational meetings for the residents before construction begins.
