Catherine Liptak, of Middletown, Dies at 78

The wife, mother and grandmother worked for the Newport Preservation Society and was an avid golfer.

Catherine M. (O’Neill) Liptak, 78, of Middletown, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Newport Hospital.

She was the loving wife for 59 years of Lawrence Liptak. Born in Newport on May 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Jenny (Ripa) O'Neill.
She was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport.

Mrs. Liptak worked for the Newport Preservation Society for 18 years. She was an avid golfer, and was a member of Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club, and was a past president of the Women’s Golf Association there. She was the 1974 Women’s Club Champion at Green Valley Golf and Country Club. In her many years of golfing, she had 2 holes in one. 

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, her grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on Friday Dec. 20 at 9 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Spring Street, Newport.
