Egged: Juvenile Charged For Throwing Eggs & Rocks At Cars

Police charged a 16-year-old Portsmouth boy with vandalism and malicious injury to property on Sunday at 10 p.m.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — Shortly after 9 on Sunday night, Middletown police responded to the Wendy's Restaurant on East Main Road for a complaint about three youngsters standing by the road and throwing eggs or rocks at passing cars. A patrol officer found the trio standing on the grass between Valley Road and the restaurant. He asked them what they were doing and inquired about a carton of eggs next to a utility pole. The youngsters explained they were going to the store to buy eggs to cook. They denied throwing any eggs at cars.

Another officer arrived. Police separated the teens, and one admitted to throwing an egg at a car. The others stuck to their original story. Then the lieutenant arrived and said the youngsters should contact their parents. At that point, one youngster said their friend was driving the car, while two teens in the back seat threw the eggs. A fourth teen, in the front seat, did not throw any eggs. The four teens in the car said they drove down from Portsmouth to meet a friend at the Wendy's where they planned to eat.

Three of the youths are 16. Two witnesses are 14 and 11.
