Election 2016 Results: Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, RI – State Rep. Deb Ruggiero held onto her seat in the General Assembly, thanks to the hometown voters in Jamestown. Middletown went with Republican Rebecca Schiff, another Jamestown resident. But ultimately, the combined total gave Ruggiero the victory in House District 74.

Linda Dill Finn won the most votes in Middletown for the District 72 seat. But Kenneth Mendonca won in Portsmouth, and the combined totals gave him the victory.

For the state Senate seat, Middletown chose Louis DiPalma. Statewide, he also captured the most votes and defeated Republican Amy Veri.

Town Council (Top 7 win.)

Paul M. Rodrigues: 4,616 votes (12.9 percent);

M. Theresa Santos: 4,518 votes (12.6 percent);

Robert J. Sylvia: 4,413 votes (12.3 percent);

Barbara A. VonVillas: 4,168 (11.6 percent);

Henry F. Lombardi, Jr. 4,085 (11.4 percent);

Antone C. Viveiros: 3,934 votes (11 percent);

Dennis B. Turano: 3,766 votes (10.5 percent);

Olin D. Gambrell, Sr. 3,208 (8.9 percent);

Daniel P. Titus: 2,919 (8.1 percent).

School Committee (Top 2 win.):

Kellie Elizabeth DiPalma: 4456 (42.4 percent)

William R. O'Connell: 3220 (30.6 percent)

Richard P. Adams: 2800 (26.6 percent)

District 12 Senate

Louis P. DiPalma (D): 4745 (67 percent)

Amy E. Veri (R): 2324 (32.8 percent)

District 72 House

Linda Dill Finn (D): 1401 (53.8 percent)

Kenneth J. Mendonca (R): 1198 (46 percent)

District 74 House

Rebecca Schiff (R): 1620 51.7 percent

Deborah L. Ruggiero (D):1485 (47.8 percent)

Question 7: Affordable Housing?

And they voted for all three Town ballot questions:

Question 8: $5 million bond for streets and sidewalks;

Question 9: $10 million bond for schools; and

Question 10: a charter change: penalties for charter violations by elected or appointed officials.
