"21 Proof" Training - Free Session

The Middletown Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force (MSAPTF) as part of their five year Drug Free Communities grant to reduce underage drinking and marijuana use, will provide a free training for Middletown alcohol vendors. The training is open to both liquor store and restaurant employees and managers. The training is designed to provide managers, owners and sales personnel with the knowledge and skills to practice effective and responsible alcohol sales and service practices.

The training entitled “21 Proof” will be offered on August 26, 2012, 9 am - 1:30 pm in the Middletown Town Hall Council Chambers. The 21 Proof Program is an RI Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals approved program and a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) award winning RBS model program.  The program will ensure that participants are aware of the RI General laws regarding alcohol sales/service and the expectations, liabilities and legal responsibilities of licensure. Skill development will include the  identification of false ID’s and strategies that may lead up to denying service based on level of intoxication or comfort with the ID. The workshop will also serve to reduce underage drinking and irresponsible drinking in Middletown establishments.

Frank Connelly, one of the developers of the program and an expert in his field will train the program. Also, presenting is Kevin Parsonage, from the Newport Police Department, who is a national expert in the area of fake IDs. 

As an incentive the Task Force is offering “Eye-D-Tech” scanners on a first come basis, one per Middletown license.  Seating is limited. Pre-registration is required. Please contact Keller DiLuglio to do so.
