A Fundraiser with a Kick!

Sleep will be at a premium starting at noon on Saturday,  October 2 at 9 a.m. when the 400 players of Middletown, RI, will have the opportunity to participate in Middletown's first ever 24-hour marathon soccer game. The event, presented by Soccer-RI, will raise money for the Middletown Athletic Boosters and the Mia Hamm Foundation.

Middletown's marathon game will begin on Saturday, October 2 at 9 a.m.and continue straight through the night until Sunday, October 3 at 9 a.m.. The top incentive prize for the players is lunch, with a guest, with world soccer legend Mia Hamm. The top 8 overall fundraisers will play in a soccer game with Mia Hamm following lunch.

ALL Middletown players who raise $250 will, with a guest, attend lunch and a Q&A session with Mia Hamm on October 25th at Wide World of Indoor Sports in North Smithfield. The top 8 overall fundraisers will, along with others, play in a soccer game with Mia Hamm following lunch.

The game will be played at the in Middletown, RI.

Event Chairperson Paul Borges said, "This is going to be a great event. One that we are sure will bring our community together and help raise money for our kids who participate in Middletown Athletics. The feedback so far has been tremendous. It is a unique and different event that we are sure will be fun for all those involved. To have Mia Hamm involved in our event really makes this even more special."  

Mia Hamm, the five-time recipient of the U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year award said, "I'm thrilled to team up with the Middletown Athletic Boostera and Soccer Rhode Island to raise both money and awareness for their charities and my foundation. I can't wait to meet the young soccer players of Middletown on October 25th!"

During the fundraising campaign, as players collect donations toward their cumulative, individual goal, they will receive, at the:

• $50 level: A flexible wrist band engraved with Mia Hamm's "Play Hard, Play Fair" message. 
• $100 level: An event-customized T-shirt and a congratulatory thank you letter from Mia Hamm.
• $250 level: An invitation to attend, with a guest, lunch and a question and answer session with Mia Hamm at Wide World of Indoor Sports in North Smithfield, RI October 25.

The top:

• 8 overall fundraisers will play in a soccer game WITH MIA HAMM following the lunch and Q&A. The top 4 fundraisers will play with Mia Hamm on TEAM MIA. The next 4 overall fundraisers will play against Mia Hamm.
