Sign Up for Kids Acting Classes at Firehouse Theater

Beginning August 1, Firehouse Theater will be offering three new programs. 

Acting Level 1 for those entering Grades 5-8 will run August 1st-5th from 9am-2:30pm . This is  program to focus on getting energetic young performers to use that energy to create characters, plays and movies for the whole family. Working with classic tales, improvisation, classic plays and Shakespeare for kids we will develop a foundation for young actors! At the end of the week theactors will present a production of scenes to showcase what they have learned.

Acting Level 2 for those entering Grades 9-12 will run August 8th-12th from 9am-2:30pm .. This week is designed for older kids experienced in theater or just looking to get started at an age appropriate level, and learn from experienced professionals. This will delve into acting technique and learn what it takes to develop real, believable characters on stage. Working with classicplaywrights from Shakespeare to Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller the kids will learn to show off their new found skills. Teens will learn Improv skills as well as advanced acting technique as they prepare for their week end presentation of their scene work 

Musical Theater Performance will run August 15th-19th and 22-26th from9am-2:30pm. A two-week Intensive camp in all the skills of musical theater, singing, dancing and acting! Learn all the basics and more advanced elements of dance required for the musical theater. And also learn the basics of how to act while singing and sing while acting! Many experienced professionals will be on hand for this two week camp that will end in a full scale production of songs, scenes and dances from some classic musicals!

The director of this program is Kevin Killavey, a professional actor who has worked at Regional Theaters across New England including The Winnipesaukee Playhouse, The Newport Playhouse, Perishable Theater, The Providence Black Repertory Theater and of course at The Firehouse Theater as a member of the Bit Players. Kevin has worked as a Theater Educator with The Newport Children's Theater, Portsmouth Action for Youth and Performing Arts Programs based out of Connecticut.   Classes and performances will be held at Firehouse Theater, 4 Equality Park Place "Off Broadway" in Newport, RI.
