July 22 Newport Gulls Game: FUNatic About Reading!

(Middletown, RI): has teamed up with the Newport Gulls once again for the FANaticAbout Reading Program.  The FANaticAbout Reading Program encourages elementary school children to read, especially during the summer.

The program will be featured on a segment on the Rhode Show airing Friday, June 24, 2011 on Fox.

Throughout the month of June Newport Gulls players and People’s employees go into the schools on Aquidneck Island to read to the children and encourage the importance of reading.  Each child is given a bookmark with space on the back for four book titles and their parent’s signature.

If the children read four books and have their parents sign the back of the bookmark that the books were completed they can use the bookmark as their entrance ticket into FANaticAbout Reading Night at the Newport Gulls on Wednesday, July 22.

“The kids really like having us in their classroom.  It’s great to meet the fans and get out in the community.  It’s incredible how many people know and love the Gulls,” commented Eric Johnson, a Newport Gulls player from UC Davis in California.
