As part of Newport's Annual Winter Festival 2011, the Seamen's Church Institute will host a Free Community Concert featuring the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Robert Franzblau, Director of Bands at Rhode Island College. There will be a selection of Irish pieces including compositions by Leroy Anderson, Percy Aldridge Grainger, as well as Clare Grundman's "An Irish Rhapsody" and the energetic, joyful music from "Riverdance." The music for this performance has been chosen for their familiarity and relationship to Newport's Irish Heritage. Sponsorship for the Concert is made possible through a grant from People's Credit Union, with additional support from the Newport Marriott Hotel. Partial support for the RIWE's concert is provided by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. The Concert is free and open to the public, although donations to benefit the work of Seamen's Church Institute will be appreciated at the door.
