Fire Destroys Middletown Home
An early morning fire ruined a home on Smythe Street, the Middletown Fire Department said.

MIDDLETOWN, RI —Middletown Firefighters posted this report on Facebook this morning.
The Fire Department "received numerous 911 calls this morning for a structure fire at 80 Smythe St. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully involved. We would like to thank The Middletown PD for their help and also the Fire Departments of Newport, Portsmouth, Naval station Newport and Jamestown for the Mutual aid assistance."
According to fire Chief Ronald Doire, the cause "is considered accidental" at this time. It is still under investigation, however.

He said no civilians or firefighters were hurt. A pet cat died, however.
The first call came in at 5:01 a.m.
