Fire at Shaw's Plaza Wednesday Afternoon

Middletown firefighters doused a fire in some wood pallets and leaves at the back of the Shaw's and CVS.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—A 911 call at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday brought the Middletown Fire Department to the Shaw's Plaza on East Main Road. According to fire Chief Ronald Doire, "a stack of wood pallets and a small dumpster were burning when MFD arrived." The fire started on the exterior of the Shaws/CVS building complex in the rear on O’Neill Boulevard, he said.

"Heat from the fire caused the paint on the building to bubble," Chief Doire said. "Fortunately, the walls were masonry construction, so the fire did not extend into the building. A small fire also started on the roof in a pile of leaves/debris" due to wind-blown embers.
