Friday: 5 Fun Halloween Activities to Do This Weekend

A look at what's happening in and around Middletown this weekend.

  1. The will be open tonight and Saturday night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with tours departing every 20 minutes (the last being at 7:10 p.m.). The event includes performances along the trail by the Newport Children’s Theatre, crafts, snacks, warm drinks, and celebrations of the sanctuary’s nocturnal animals. This is a not-so-spooky family friendly event. Admission is $12 for adults ($10 member), $10 for children ages 3 to 12 ($8 member), and free for children under 3.
  2. Naval Station Newport’s at the Carr Point Recreation Area on Burma Road will be open tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. The event will include the haunted trail, pirate express, arts and crafts, and live entertainment. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 4 to 12, and free for children 3 and under. Discounted rates available for active duty personnel.
  3. will host its on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Owners are encouraged to dress up their pups (people and animal friendly only) and parade them around the grounds of the Potter League as well as have pictures taken and enjoy plenty of treats. Door and costume prizes will be awarded, and the cost is $7.
  4. The will host a free party from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday in which children are encouraged to drop in dressed in costume to craft and enjoy Halloween treats.
  5. The Middletown Historical Society will present a lecture called presented by folklorist Dr. Michael Bell, who will discuss the history of vampires in New England at the Paradise School from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. A donation of $3 per person or $5 per family is suggested.
