Friday: 7 Must Do Events This Weekend

A look at what's happening in and around Middletown this weekend.

Middletown and Newport are hopping with happenings this weekend. Here are some of our top picks, but be sure to check out our Events calendar for a complete listing of things to plan to do this weekend.

  1. The will host its from Saturday, Dec. 3, through Sunday, Dec. 11, featuring the jewelry of Sequin at prices up to 80 percent off. All of the proceeds will go to the Potter League, and there will be a special preview night on Friday, Dec. 2, for ladies only.
  2. The will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Easton’s Beach Rotunda. Proceeds from the sale will go to benefit , a shelter serving homeless women and their children.
  3. The is holding a on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The shelter's trainers will be on hand to answer questions, discuss training programs, and demonstrate tip and tricks, and refreshments will be served.
  4. will hold their final 2011 event to raise money for Movember, an international organization in which men grow mustaches for a month to raise awareness and money for men’s cancers, on Friday night at at 8 p.m., and there will be mustaches lost! The party has a disco theme, and a $20 donation at the door gets you beer and wine until 10 p.m.
  5. will hold its at 6 p.m. on Saturday, featuring Christmas music, a visit by Frosty the Snowman at 4:30 p.m., caroling at 5 p.m., and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus via sailboat immediately following the tree lighting.

Children are invited to bring their favorite teddy bear friend to enjoy sandwiches, pastries, tea, and hot chocolate, as well as to bring a new, unwrapped teddy bear in its original packaging for donation to children through Newport’s . Admission is free for children who bring a bear for donation and $25 for adults.

The faculty of the ’s Coleman Center for Creative Studies will be selling their works of art in a on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will include pottery, photography, small paintings and prints, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Coleman Center Scholarship Fund.
