Get Out: 6 Fun Family Weekend Events
Before Hurricane Irene hits, get out and enjoy the many offerings this weekend has to offer while the going is good.

Where/When: on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Why Go: This class kicks off the Garden Workshop Series, as Rachel Holbert and Erika Gibb lead the group in making fresh salsas, relishes and more using ingredients just picked from the NBS gardens.
Pricing: $10/members; $12/non-members
Where/When: on Sunday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Get your hair cut, indulge in a mini-manicure, pedicure, or facial, or get waxed for a cause at this first annual event to benefit Lucy’s Hearth. In addition to haircuts, the event will also include a bake sale and raffle, and all guests are asked to bring an item to donate such as diapers, wipes, shampoo and other hygiene items.
Pricing: Service prices range from $7-20.
Where/When: on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: There’s something for everyone at this arts festival where you can shop a wide variety of art from local and national artists alike, enjoy music and children’s activities, and indulge in everything from local seafood to sweet treats all to benefit Looking Upwards.

Where/When: Casino Theatre on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.
Why Go: Don’t miss the opportunity to see this PG-13 rated acclaimed documentary about a Brazilian race car driver as well as the chance to win one of two Skip Barber Racing School “Introduction to Racing” classes, valued at $800. Those who want to get there early can attend the wine reception which begins at 6 p.m.
Pricing: $12 for the movie; $20 for the wine reception and movie
Where/When: Recommended viewing from , , and Fort Wetherill on Saturday, Aug. 27 and Sunday, Aug. 28 from 4:30 to 5 p.m. (weather permitting)
Why Go: The Newport Bucket Regatta will stage a traffic-stopping air show (literally, the Coast Guard is shutting down all traffic in the Bay). The show will feature six rare World War II era planes from the Texas Flying Legends.

Where/When: on Sunday, August 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Why Go: Don your favorite summer hat and garden attire for this benefit featuring refreshments and the sounds of the Mike Walsh Trio with all proceeds going to the restoration and improvement of the Redwood Library grounds.
