Where/When: Dunkin’ Donuts at 159 East Main Rd. on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Why Go:  Meet Bruins star Shawn Thornton in a meet and greet while enjoying free samples of popular Dunkin’ Donuts items as well as face painting, a balloon artist and more. Event goes until 1 p.m., but Thornton will only be on hand from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Where/When: Paradise Park, 1 Prospect Avenue, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
Why Go: Go inside historic Boyd's Windmill and the Paradise Schoolhouse. Enjoy food, music and fun for the whole family. And did someone say, jonnycakes?!

Where/When: Newport County YMCA on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m.
Why Go: This first annual event will kick off with a one-mile fun run (or walk) for people of all ages in which everyone will receive medals, and will be followed by a 5K at 9 a.m. to benefit Newport Hospital.
Pricing: $30 per person; $20 with military ID; Fun run is free for children ages 12 and under.
Where/When: Norman Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why Go: Â Enjoy the artwork of local residents of all ages, as well as workshops on meditation, movement, sculpture, instrument building from beach finds, and much more. Additional weekend activities surrounding this even can be found online at www.normanbirdsanctuary.com.
Pricing: Free- APPLE PICKING
Where/When: Sweet Berry Farm starting on Friday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Why Go: Kick off the first unofficial weekend of the fall season by heading to Sweet Berry Farm’s orchards which will be open for apple picking starting this weekend.
Pricing: Depends on how many you pick!
Where/When: Kingscote on Friday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: Enjoy the rare opportunity to view the gardens of nine private estates in the Bellevue Avenue and Ocean Drive neighborhoods to benefit arts and cultural programs in the Aquidneck Island schools. Ticket purchase and redemption will be at Kingscote where attendees will receive a map to the featured gardens. Â
