Get Out: Birds and Breakfast, Mayfair, Beach Carnival

A roundup of some of the best bets to keep you and your family entertained in Middletown this weekend, beginning Thursday.

Here's a look at the weekend offerings ahead:

  • A Night of Comedy and Magic
    Where/When: , Thursday, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
    Why Go: Jimmy Dunn of Comedy Central headlines. The event is also a Newport Lions Club benefit to help local charities.
    Pricing: $25 per person, two tickets for $40, or a table of 10 get in for $200.

  • Where/When: Easton's Beach Parking Lot, Newport. On Wed. & Thurs. the gates open at 6 p.m., Friday gates open at 3 p.m., Sat. & Sun. gates open at noon.
    Why Go: The Newport Lions Club benefits numerous local charities and it's the first carnival of the year. It happens on one of New England's best beaches! Oh, and who doesn't love a good dough-boy and paper cone wrapped with cotton candy?
    Pricing: $20 for unlimited rides.

  • Where/When:
    on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 at 8 p.m.
    Why Go: The Middletown High School Drama Club, under the direction of Kevin Zahm, will perform the most frequently performed play in high schools in America about nine couples at varying degrees of understanding about their relationships with each other.
    Pricing: $5

  • Where/When:
    on Sunday, May 15 from 7:30 to 11 a.m.
    Why Go: Enjoy guided bird walks, children’s activities and breakfast prepared by the chefs at the White Horse Tavern. Bird walks will begin every half hour, and breakfast seatings will be at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., and 10 a.m.  
    Pricing: $20/adult in advance; $25/adult at door; $5/child; Children under 3 are free.

  • Where/When:
    Pennfield School in Portsmouth on Sunday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Why Go: Bring the kids for a day filled with games, face painting, bounce houses, food and more. Adults will enjoy the silent auction with items such as Red Sox tickets, spa days, vacation packages and more.
    Pricing: Free admission

  • Where/When:
    on Saturday, May 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 12 a.m.
    Why Go:  This evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing to The Felix Brown Band, and silent and live auctions is all to benefit the Big Sisters of RI and honor the newest members of their Magical Circle of People.
    Pricing: $125
  • NEWPORT IN BLOOM PLANT SALE
    Where/When:
    Corner of Eustis Avenue and Old Beach Road on Saturday, May 14 at 8:30 a.m.
    Why Go:  Pick up annual and perennial herbs, vegetables, and flowering plants for your garden and get tips from great gardeners all to benefit Newport in Bloom.
    Pricing: You decide.

  • Where/When:
    on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Join Lt. John Reis for a lesson on bullying aimed at parents, teachers and students in grades K through 8. Lunch will be served, and there will be a bounce house, magician, storytelling, face painting, and much more.
