Get Out! Summer Goes Out With a Bang [VIDEO]

A fireworks show, Irish Fest, carousel celebration, Thomas the Tank Engine train ride and more fun awaits this Labor Day Weekend.

  • Where/When:
    on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Head to the beach with family and friends for the town's last organized bonfire overlooking Sachuest Bay.

  • Where/When:
    on Thursday, Sept. 1 at sundown.
    Why Go: The final outdoor screening by NewportFilm will feature "The Last Mountain," a documentary about the battle between a community trying to preserve Coal River Mountain and the fossil fuel industry.
    Pricing: Free

  • Where/When:
    on Thursday, Sept. 1 through Sunday, Sept. 4 at various times
    Why Go:  
    Kids will delight in this rare opportunity to ride Thomas the Train and meet Sir Topham Hatt. Plus there will be lots of fun activities, crafts, stories and more with a Thomas and Friends theme.
    Pricing:  $18 per person

  • Where/When:
    on Saturday, Sept. 3 from 12 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4 from 12 to 8 p.m., and Monday, Sept. 5 from 12 to 5 p.m.
    Why Go:
     Celebrate all things Irish at this festival featuring Irish music, step-dancing, comedy, culture and wares, and of course, Guinness!
    Pricing: $20 on Saturday and Sunday; $17 on Monday

  • Where/When:
    Dewey Field at Naval Station Newport on Saturday, Sept. 3 from 5 to 10 p.m.
    Why Go:  The Naval Station will open its gates to the community for a concert by Little Big Town with Navy Band Northeast’s Rhode Island Sound followed by a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, but no outside coolers are allowed.

  • Where/When:
    on Sunday, August 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Enjoy the last moments of summer at Easton’s Beach with two for $1 carousel rides, $3 all day passes for the waterslide, board games, bubbles, and live performances.
    Pricing:  Free admission
