Get Out: Sweet Berry Farm Re-Opens, Help for Japan and Much More

Ours is a generous and creative community and this could not be more apparent than in the weekend ahead for Middletowners:

  Where/When: on Thursday, April 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.
  Why Go: MHS students will show off their skills in various foreign languages as well as their knowledge of various cultures with Latin dance, henna art, a salsa cook-off, international foods, and much more.
  Pricing: Free, donations welcome.
• SWEET BERRY FARM SEASON OPENING
  Where/When: doors re-open on Friday, April 15 at 8 a.m.
  Why Go: Is there really anything more to say than the fresh baked goods, Susanna’s award-winning Ice Cream, fresh flowers, and all your other Sweet Berry favorites will once again be available beginning this weekend. We can now all come out of hibernation!

• HOPE FROM THE HAVOC
  Where/When: on Friday, April 15 from 4 to 8 p.m.
  Why Go: Join the Aquidneck Island areas Japanese friends and families of RI to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan. Activities will include a silent auction, crane making, animated films, a bazaar, sampling of traditional Japanese foods, and more with all of the proceeds going to the Japan Society’s earthquake fund.

  Where/When: Downtown Designs on Friday, April 15 from 4 to 6 p.m.
  Why Go:   will host their grand opening party of their new store at 57 Broadway featuring artwork, jewelry and art made from re-purposed materials, all created by local artists with disabilities.

  Where/When: Portofino at the Royal Plaza Hotel on Friday, April 15 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  Why Go:  Lois Vaughn will perform amongst a gallery of artwork by artists with disabilities from Looking Upwards while guests enjoy dinner.

  Where/When: and other knitting shops from Friday, April 15 to Sunday, April 17.
  Why Go: Join the Great Rhody Yarn Crawl in which knitters are connected to local yarn shops. Download a “passport” and have each shop you visit stamp it to be entered to win prizes. If you bring a canned good for the RI Food Bank, you’ll receive an extra entry into the big raffle held on Sunday at the Slater Mill in Pawtucket from 12 to 5 p.m.

  Where/When: Ochre Court on Sunday, April 17 from 2 to 4 p.m.
  Why Go: Spend the afternoon listening to the sounds of Larry Brown’s Swinglane Orchestra under the direction of Jack Rodway. Enjoy wine (cash bar), soft drinks and other refreshments in a magnificent setting all to benefit Aquidneck Island high school seniors in the form of book rewards. Sponsored by the Mosaic Club who is celebrating their 75^th anniversary this year.
