Historical Society Presents 'Food for the Dead' Vampire Author Lecture

The Middletown Historical Society will present a talk on vampires by renowned local folklorist, Dr. Michael Bell on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Did you know that vampires survived the remote areas of New England more than one hundred years before Bram Stoker penned Dracula in 1897?

The will present a talk on vampires by author Dr. Michael Bell on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Old Paradise School at Paradise Park.

The renowned local folklorist relates his quest to unravel the mystery of these little-known, so-called vampires, beginning with a family story told to him by an old Yankee from rural Rhode Island.

A new edition of his award-wining book, "Food for the Dead: On the Trail of New England's Vampires," will be published by Wesleyan University Press in the Fall of 2011.

The event, to be held at the Old Paradise School at 1 Prospect Ave., Middletown, is free-of-charge. However, nominal contributions to the Middletown Historical Society will be gratefully accepted. Suggested donations are $3 per person or $5 per family.
