Islanders Bring The Hammer Against The Avengers

The Middletown Islander Varsity Football Team remain undefeated and take home the Division III Championship with the 20-7 win against East Greenwich.

If you ask a fan who attended Friday night's away football game against East Greenwich how the game went, step in real close.  It is likely they have little or no voice to speak of.  The screaming, cheering and carrying on conducted by the Islander Crew, as they have affectionately been dubbed, started at the first touchdown in the second quarter and never let up for the hour and a half to follow in the crowded visitor stands.

This is what we do know.  The Islanders remain undeafeated this season; a feat not accomplished for years according long time Islander fans.  They brought home the Division III Championship title with this regular season 20-7 win and worked every yard of play as if their very lives depended on it.

The game remained scoreless in the first quarter until the second quarter breakthrough by junior Connor Russ.  Noone got comfortable as the Islanders realized from the start that there would be nothing easy about this game.

With flags constantly flying and the Islander defense acting as a constant brick wall against the Avenger offense, Islander fans began chanting and yelling their unwavering support until the last buzzer called.

In fact, all three touchdowns had the same name on them. Connor Russ played with a finesse that is typically seen on the #bluemachine line.  They find the gap and break through it until the job gets done.

And that's exactly what they did.
