Middletown Falls to Mt. Hope and Barrington Track Teams

Results from the high school girls track and field meet with Middletown, Barrington and Mt. Hope high schools Tuesday night.

The Islanders hosted a dual Eastern Division girls track and field meet on their home turf at Gaudet Field Tuesday against Mt. Hope and Barrington.

Barrington easily outpaced both teams and took home a double victory with the highest point totals collected for the day, while Mt. Hope went home with a split and Middletown suffered losses to both schools.

Barrington remains at the top of the Eastern Division in first place with six wins and no losses. Mt. Hope holds onto fourth place with four wins and three losses this season. Tuesday's losses place Middletown in the middle of the division pack in sixth place out of 11 division teams, according to the RIIL website.

According to the official Rhode Island Interscholastic League, the final overall results on Tuesday were:

  • Middletown vs. Barrington, 33 - 110. 
  • Middletown vs. Mt. Hope, 56 - 88. 
  • Mt. Hope vs. Barrington, 38 - 106.  

The evening also was senior night for the Middletown Girls Track and Field team, with seniors Emily Buck, CC Ferguson, and senior Captains DJ Connerton and Emily Daughan honored.

According to Middletown Coach Angela Coughlin, the Islanders' highlights and top performers from the day were as follows:

  • Senior captain DJ Connerton finished in 1st place in the shot put with a throw of 28'6"1/2,  2nd in the hammer with a throw of 79'1" and 3rd in the discus throwing 77'6".   
  • Emily Westcott tied Mt. Hope for 2nd in the High Jump, clearing 4'2" on their 1st attempt.
  • Shannon Huggard placed 3rd in High Jump clearing 4'2" on her 2nd attempt.  
  • Anna Hawkins placed 2nd place in the triple jump, 27'3" and 4th in the long jump. 
  • Kenleigh Hebel placed 1st in the 3000m with a time of 13.11.5 and 2nd place in the Javelin throwing 73ft.

What's Next:

Middletown's final regular season meet will be on Monday, May 2 when they travel to Portsmouth High to take on the Patriots and Shea High at 3:30 p.m.

Barrington's last regular season meet will be on Monday May 2, when they take on Tolman and host a dual meet at home. The start time is 3:30.

Mt. Hope will round out their regular season when they take on East Providence and Rogers at home.  That meet will begin at 3:30.
