The following incidents were reported by local authorities during the week ending July 31, 2010.

Middletown Police and Fire Departments reported the following recent arrests and incidents for week ending July 31, 2010:

  • Jessica A. Neal, 24, of Middletown was arrested in an apartment at 1 Crescent Road around 3:30 am Saturday, July 31, 2010 morning and charged with domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property for allegedly destroying a cell phone owned by a 40-year-old Newport resident.
  • Dennis W. McLaughlin, 43, of Warwick, RI, was arrested Friday morning around 10 am on North Drive for alleged possession of marijuana and charged with a 1st offense misdemeanor, after police responded to a car parked on the wrong side of the street and allegedly discovered marijuana in the car that reportedly tested positive during a field test.
  • The Middletown Fire Department extinguished a transformer fire Thursday night around 6pm at 120 Niagara Street in the Anchorage neighborhood. The fire left 6-8 housing units without power for two to four hours while National Grid worked with a Navy response team to secure and replace the power transformer. No property damage or injuries were reported.
  • Around 7pm Thursday, July 29, 2010, a 14-year-old alleged Providence runaway who fled from DCYF authorities in Middletown during an attempted transport to Providence was charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly threatening officers. The youth had been picked up by local police on Stockton Drive around 1 am and held by local juvenile authorities overnight for a scheduled transport back to Providence Thursday. The youth appeared before Family Court Thursday night and was held by local authorities to be transported to the Rhode Island Training School on Friday.
  • James M. Hook, 48, of Middletown, was arrested Wednesday, July 28, 2010 around 5pm at Middletown Square on an outstanding bench warrant from 2nd District Court for a misdeanor charge.
  • Middletown police arrested two Portsmouth residents on alleged marijuana possession charges around 1 am Wednesday, July 28, 2010 following a traffic stop on West Main Road, according to police reports.
  • Brandon E. Bateman, 21, and a 17-year old minor, both Portsmouth residents, were reportedly each charged with 1st offense marijuana possession, a misdemeanor, after samples of substances at the scene allegedly tested positive during a field test conducted by police officers.
  • Middletown police reported they arrested David F. Lee, 56, of Beverly, MA, shortly after 9pm Monday, July 26, 2010, and charged him with 1st offense alleged possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. Police at the scene reported that they approached a parked car with an open door in the beach lot and allegedly observed a plastic bag with a substance resembling marijuana on the seat beside Lee. Police also seized a wooden case with pipe.
  • Police report they arrested 19-year old Nathan B. Williams, 19, of Middletown, Tuesday, July 27, 2010, on a 1st offense misdemeanor marijuana possession charge after allegedly finding marijuana in his car following a traffic stop. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license. The arrest reportedly around 5:37 pm on Briarwood Avenue near Aquidneck Avenue, after police pulled over Williams' 1999 black Jeep Cherokee for suspicion of driving on a revoked license.
