New Boat Storage Restrictions In Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, RI — Town Council on Monday amended bylaws, which now restrict people from storing their boats near the road on their own property.

According to the ordinance, one boat that's less than 15 feet tall can be kept outdoors in residential districts.

New mandates set by the Town Council said any home in the R-10 district, a residential district composed of 10,000 square-foot lots, with a boat must keep the boat at least 12 feet away from a public street. In residential districts with larger lots, boats need to be at least 24 feet away from the road.

Residents can appeal for relief from the mandate by coming before the Middletown’s Zoning Board of Review.
