Newport Man Arrested Wednesday After Falling Out of Minivan

MIDDLETOWN, RI—Middletown police arrested Victor Manuel Santiago, 39, of Newport, on Tuesday at 4:55 p.m.

He was taken into custody near the intersection of West Main Road and Coddington Highway. Police said they had been called to the scene for a male passenger who had fallen out of a silver Honda Odyssey minivan. The car was traveling South, police were told.

When they arrived, the officers verified the man was unhurt. He refused medical treatment.

Witnesses told police the female driver had stopped the vehicle and threw Santiago back in. She told police he called her from Providence, was intoxicated and asked for a ride home to Newport.

Police checked records and discovered he is wanted for a bail violation out of Second District Court. The original charge was violating a No Contact order, his third offense.

He also had an active No Contact order preventing him from contact with the victim.

Santiago was charged with Domestic Violation of a No Contact Order, a felony.

Police said the victim is a 44-year-old Newport woman.

He was transported to the Middletown police department.

According to court records, police said, on March 22, 2016, he was sentenced to one year suspended and one year probation on the charge of violating a No Contact order.
