Ray Laake published a picture and post on Middletown, RI Patch. He wanted to know why the cemetery did not repair a tattered flag.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—Ray Laake published a post on the Middletown Patch Facebook page with a picture of a tattered U.S. flag. The picture and post came from an unidentified writer who said "long story short, this flag's been like this for two weeks."

The unidentified writer also included the telephone number of the cemetery and said he'd been getting the run around.

"P.S. this is considered a veteran's cemetery."

The Patch called Newport Memorial Park, which is off Howland Avenue and behind Third Beach Road. A woman who answered the telephone said the cemetery is aware of the situation and the groundskeepers intend to remove the flag.

She said it was stuck atop the flagpole and indicated the pole might have to be removed. The woman, who said her name is Debra, added they could not do the work today because of the weather. She thought they might be able to take the flag down tomorrow.
