Obituary: Alice Lowe Gabriel, 85

Alice Lowe Gabriel of Middletown, RI, died peacefully in her home on Dec 26, 2014. Her family was by her side.

She was the loving wife of the late Louis J. Gabriel of Middletown, RI. Born in Newport, RI, Alice Gabriel was the daughter of the late George and Alice (Frazer) Bowman .

In her earlier years, Alice was a telephone operator for New England Telephone Company. She attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy in 1948. She was gifted with a lovely singing voice, and an ability to play the piano. Alice was an artist of the knitting needle and the sewing machine; talents she generously gifted on family and friends.

In addition, she was a talented Computer Techy, and delighted in teaching her caregivers and friends how to navigate the internet.

Alice Gabriel is survived by her children: Barry Botelho of Portsmouth, RI, his wife Susan, their son, Michael, and wife Meredith (Benvenuto) and daughter Hadley Rose; daughters, Maryann Jordan of Middletown RI and Kathleen Maloney of Middletown, RI, her husband, James and their son Matthew.

Mrs. Gabriel also leaves her sisters: Nancy Bowman of Williston, Vermont, Sheila Graff of Orlando, Florida and the late Jackie Bowman Rossi of Newport, RI; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Mrs. Gabriel’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the caring and compassionate Hospice Team of the Visiting Nurses of Newport and Bristol County.

There will be no wake or calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 30th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church on Spring Street in Newport, RI.
