Parking Ban Begins at Midnight in Middletown

Plus: trash and recycling pickup is delayed this week and next.

It’s déjà vu all over again as another winter storm is expected to bring a snowy mix of precipitation to Middletown beginning late Sunday into Monday.

As a result, a parking ban will go into effect at midnight Sunday and will continue until further notice, according to the Middletown police department.

The storm has also thrown another wrinkle into the trash collection schedule. Pickup in Middletown this week will be delayed two days this week and one day next week.

  • Last Friday’s delayed trash and recycling will be collected on Tuesday
  • Monday’s trash and recycling will be collected on Wednesday
  • Tuesday’s trash and recycling will be collected on Thursday
  • Wednesday’s trash and recycling will be collected on Friday
  • Thursday’s trash and recycling will be collected on Saturday
  • Friday’s trash and recycling will be collected on Monday Feb.9th

Because Friday’s route is again being pushed to next Monday, the week’s collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week (as if there was a Monday holiday).

The town is asking residents to keep trash and recycling carts off the street until Tuesday morning so they don’t get knocked over by plows.

Forecasters have cited a high degree of unpredictability with the impending storm as the changeover from snow to rain and back to snow could vary dramatically along the shore and several miles inland.

A Winter Storm Warning has been declared and will remain in effect until 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Snow will develop after midnight tonight and the accumulation could be rapid during periods of exceptional snowfall. Snowfall rates could reach one to three inches per hour and the morning rush hour is expected to be messy.

Areas could see rain for a period of time late Monday morning, but the precipitation will switch back to snow before the storm is over Monday night.
