Projo.com: RI Wins Race to the Top Funds
Rhode Island has won the second round of "Race to the Top" federal grant monies and stands to receive up to $75 million in education aid.
The Associated Press (AP) today reported that Rhode Island is one of 9 winners to benefit from the $4-billion federal "Race to the Top" competition and that the state is on track to receive the roughly $75 million in grant monies for education that it requested, according to Projo.com.
The nationwide federal competition rewards states for education reforms and today's announcement marks the second round that Rhode Island has passed. In Rhode Island, the state reporyedly adopted a statewide school funding formula, committed to more teacher training, developed a new teacher evaluation system and took other steps.
The state had requested $75 million in aid and a spokesperson from Sen. Jack Reed's office confirmed to the AP that the amount would be "in the ballpark of $75 million."
