MIDDLETOWN, RI — Here are recent arrests in Middletown. Both suspects were charged May 16. The information is from the police log.

Michael J. Flores, 36, of Seekonk, Mass., was taken into custody on May 16 at 1:05 p.m. on West Main Road near Access Road. Officers on the distracted driving detail spotted him allegedly texting on his cell phone and not looking at the road. After he was pulled over, officers saw his license was suspended and he was wanted on a Newport District Court warrant. Flores was charged with Driving after his license was denied, revoked or suspended and cited for texting while driving. Police took him to Second District Court.

Joseph W. Perugini, 34, of Middletown, was arrested on May 16 at 2:47 a.m. at his home. He was charged with Domestic Assault by strangulation, which is a felony, and two misdemeanors (Domestic Simple Assault or Battery and Domestic Vandalism, malicious injury to property). Police said the victim is a 31-year-old Newport woman.
