Substance Abuse Center Opens New Middletown Location

The ribbon cutting was Monday at the Valley Road outpatient facility.

From The Journey to Hope, Health & Healing: The Journey to Hope, Health and Healing held a Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening for its new Middletown location, bringing comprehensive outpatient recovery services to Aquidneck Island—a traditionally underserved area with a need for more substance abuse treatment centers. The Journey is certified as a Center of Excellence by the State of Rhode Island Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH).

“We look forward to helping residents of Aquidneck Island who are struggling with addiction get on a path to recovery, said Tom Hill, Journey CEO. “We are here to provide the medication assisted treatment, counseling and support that is not only evidenced-based, but that we know from our own experience works.”

US Representative David Cicilline (D-1) said, “In this building The Journey will provide treatment that will save and transform lives.”

State Representative Deborah Ruggiero (D-74) added, “The face of addiction has changed. Many of us know someone touched by opioid addiction. To have The Journey in Middletown is what we need for our residents on Aquidneck Island.”

Rebecca Boss, Director of BHDDH, said, “I am excited that the Journey is now offering high quality treatment to this underserved region.”

Chris, a Journey client, said, “When there is someone to help you along, recovery becomes possible. That is what the Journey has done for me. I no longer feel that I am all alone.”

Other speakers included Wendy Looker, Vice-Chair of Opioid Treatment Association of RI and Alison Barber, a counselor in the Journey’s Westerly Recovery Center. More than 35 people attended the Grand Opening.

A full service outpatient recovery center, The Journey to Hope, Health & Healing offers comprehensive substance abuse treatment for people addicted to heroin, opioid-based painkillers, fentanyl, alcohol, and other substances. The Journey is certified as a Center of Excellence. Its dedicated and experienced team-- including Board Certified Physicians and Trained Therapists -- provides the support and individually tailored treatment that guides each individual on their own journey to recovery.
