T-Minus 4 Weeks and Counting: Local Students Get Ready to Talk to International Space Station

Local students accelerate preparations to talk to an astronaut aboard the International Space Station early May

A local Middletown school is accelerating efforts to get ready for a very rare event. During the first week of May 2016, a small group of lucky students from All Saints STEAM Academy (AS²A) in Middletown will be posing questions to one of the astronauts aboard the International Space Station. As the space station passes overhead Rhode Island, this will be the state's first-ever, school-to-space conversation.

The school is also holding an "Ask Astronaut Tim" contest through April 10th for all Rhode Island grade K-8 students. Three winners will be chosen and invited to come to All Saints the day of the event and pose their winning questions to the astronaut. Contest details are at bitly.com/AskAstroTim.

We’re excited to share this event with Patch readers and invite the community to enter the contest and to follow our educational and technical preparations at RISpaceStation.com
