Today: Artist Reception to Benefit ALT, Bonfire Returns to Second Beach

Here's a look at what's happening in and around Middletown today.

  1. It’s Beach Bonfire Night at Second Beach! 
  2. Take the kids to the Point a few hours earlier for Arts & Crafts Day at the National Wildlife Refuge from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  3. A special Wine and Cheese Artist Benefit Reception to display the works of Joya Granbery Hoyt will be held at Sweet Berry Farm from 6–8 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from Hoyt’s photo collages on Navajo rug designs will be donated to the Aquidneck Land Trust.
  4. Local police departments are holding a special Children’s Night community festival at Easton’s Beach tonight.
  5. On this day in 2002, the sunken U.S.S. Monitor was raised off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, from the ocean floor after sinking in a storm during the Civil War some 140 years ago.
