Two Locals Win Top Honors in National Guard Strongman Contest

The 2011 New England Strongman Competition, sponsored by the Rhode Island National Guard on Sunday, ended with two locals taking 1st Place prizes for best demonstration of strength and stamina in their categories.

The 2011 New England Strongman Competition, sponsored by the Rhode Island National Guard and hosted by on Sunday afternoon, sported 19 high school participants from across Rhode Island.

Participants competed in events that included the tire flip, the farmer’s walk, the tire toss and loading medley. 

This year’s competition was especially special for senior Jeff Andrade, who took home first place honors in the “135 lb and under” division for the second year in a row. Jeff came to the event loaded for bear and prepared to walk away with high honors in his last year of competition.

Additional honors went to senior Taylor O’Malley who took first place in the female division. Taylor came to the competition as a walk-on with no previous experience in Strongman competing.
