Undefeated Islanders Post 12-0 Win Over Mt. Hope

Grace Eng pitched another shutout game and received 12 runs of support from her team to earn the victory and help keep her team unbeaten on the season.

Head Coach Robin Ramey has said since day one:

One pitch at a time... One inning at a time... One game at a time.  "What's the score?" she asks after every inning.  "Zero, zero!"  the team responds each time in unison.

If the Middletown High School Girls Softball Team continues to play as well as they have, there may be no stopping them.

The Islanders rolled over Mt. Hope at home on Thursday with a 12-0 win that kept their unbeaten season going and also put them ahead of second place Portsmouth by two games in Division II South.

Grace Eng took the mound for Middletown with an (4-0) record on the year coming into the game and improved that record to (5-0) after pitching a one hit complete game shutout against Mt. Hope. She finished with five K's on the day and brought her ERA down to well... Practically zero.

Mt. Hope did not have a good day on the mound, pulling their starting pitcher in the bottom of the fourth in favor of shortstop Christie Ribeiro, who pitched well but was still tagged for three runs that gave the Islanders a 12-0 lead and the game was called by way of the run rule.

The big inning scoring wise for the Islanders came in the second when Middletown hit back-to back-to back doubles that sparked a four-run inning. The Islanders added two more in the third and three in the fourth.

In the end it wasn't even close. The Islanders took home a win to improve their record to (8-0) in the Division and (9-0) overall.

Final score was Middletown, 12.  Mt. Hope, 0.

POST GAME

The Islanders 1-2 starting punch combo of Grace Eng and Brittany Lewis are a combined (9-0) on the season. Both have near non-existent ERA's and are the anchor of the Islander "Unit."

At the halfway mark on the 2011 season, I asked Coach Ramey to reflect on her team's performance so far this year. "Every game I see glimpses of improvement in all aspects of the game. We are concentrating on taking care of all the little things and game by game we are accomplishing our goal to do so."  She added "My team really leaves everything out on the field.  I am proud of their focus and heart they play with in every game."

I also asked Coach Ramey her thoughts on Grace Eng as a member of the Islanders and as a starting pitcher. "Grace is a focused, determined, and unbelievable leader and athlete."

NO TIME TO REST...

The Islanders will play North Kingstown on Friday night under the lights at "The Complex" in Middletown. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Islanders have been unbeatable so far. How far will they go?

This is the place to find out.
