Whiz Kid: Julia Drake Makes Lemonade Out of Lemons for Flood Victims

When 8-year-old Julia Drake of Middletown recently saw a friend's family in need after a bad flood had heavily damaged their book store, she turned lemons into lemonade.

Accomplishments: Julia raised $420 to help support the Vermont Flood Relief by selling lemonade and cookies in just one day over the weekend.

Julia ran the Lemonade & Cookie stand on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, according to Aunties Kristin and Holly. She was inspired to help raise funds for the Vermont Flood Relief after visiting her friend Ally in Wilmington, VT over Columbus Day weekend. Her parents' bookstore had sustained heavy damage from flooding and Julia was very surprised by all of the damage and wanted to help out her friend's family. She had helped out at Ally's lemonade stand during her visit to Vermont and wanted to do something similar in Middletown to help out those people affected by the flood.

Julia's aunts say she is very thankful to all who participated!
