Twenty-five mile per hour easterlies and a 9:30 a.m. high tide caused flooding on the roads and marshes along Third Beach.
With its exposure to the southeast, takes a pounding during the type of weather in progress this morning.
At 9:30 a.m., winds were recorded in Middletown at 24 miles per hour from the east, gusting to 38 miles per hour, according to weather.com, which also reported that half an inch of rain fell during the night. The high tide at 9:36 a.m., according to the tide charts published by Rhode Island Harbors, provided the additional element contributing to flooding in the Third Beach area.
The flooded conditions should be short-lived, as rain is expected to be light for the remainder of the day, and low tide will arrive around 3 p.m. The wind, however, is forecast to remain strong all day, at 25 to 30 miles per hour from the East-Southeast.
