2 More Newport Beaches Closed To Swimming

Gooseberry Beach and Hazard's Beach in Newport were closed due to high bacteria levels.

NEWPORT, RI — Two more Newport beaches are closed to swimming due to high bacteria levels. The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended closing Gooseberry Beach and Hazard's Beach Wednesday evening.

The closures come just one day after Easton's Beach, also in Newport, was closed for high bacteria levels.

After a beach is closed, the department tests the water quality daily until bacteria returns to safe levels. The most up-to-date beach closure information is available by calling the department's prerecorded beach line at 401-222-2751.
