2 Out Of State Men Facing Gun, Stolen Car Charges After Newport Arrest

Rhode Island State Police said the car was stolen in Georgia on Sept. 11.

NEWPORT, RI — Two men from out of state were arrested in Newport Wednesday after Rhode Island State Police said they were caught with a stolen vehicle and illegally-owned guns.

Kotey Gibson, 27, of Burton, Michigan, and Patrick Richardson, 38, of Brooklyn, New York, were charged with possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence, possession of a stolen vehicle, license or permit required for carrying a pistol, receiving stolen goods over $1,500, felony conspiracy and obstruction of an officer in execution of duty.

State Police said the arrest resulted from a motor vehicle stop on Connell Highway in Newport.

A check of the vehicle's VIN number revealed it to have been reported stolen out of College Park, Georgia, on Sept. 11, police said.

Both men were taken to the State Police Wickford Barracks, where they were held overnight for a morning arraignment at Fourth District Court.
