2nd Man Charged With Newport Double-Shooting

NEWPORT, RI — A second man has been charged in connection with a July gun attack in Park Holm that left two with bullet wounds to their "lower extremities," police said.

Nasydi Brown, 18, was also arrested when the first man charged with the July 19 double shooting was taken into custody 10 days later at a residence in Newport News, Virginia.

The first man charged with the gun attack, 19-year-old Tyquan Johnson of Hampton, Virginia, about 10 miles from Newport News, has already waived extradition and agreed to return to Rhode Island, where he will face charges of felony assault with a firearm and discharging a firearm in a compact area.

At the time of Johnson's arrest Brown, also a resident of Hampton, was already wanted in his hometown on charges of reckless handling of a firearm resulting in serious injury, abuse or neglect of a child, reckless disregard for life, shooting in a public place causing injury, and maliciously shooting at an occupied building, and was taken into custody as well.

"Through the course of this investigation, Mr. Brown has been identified as the second suspect involved in (the Park Holm) shooting," the Newport Police Department said in a media release, and he also was charged with felony assault with a firearm and discharging a firearm in a compact area.

"Mr. Brown is currently answering to the charges from the Hampton ... Police Department," the release said.
