NEWPORT, RI — Three Newport beaches are back open to swimming, just in time for the unofficial end of summer. On Friday, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced that bacteria at Gooseberry, Hazards and Fort Adams Beaches have returned to safe levels.

"No Rhode Island-licensed beaches are closed for swimming over the Labor Day weekend," the department said in a release.

Labor Day marks the end of the beach monitoring season. Information on this summer's beach closures is available on the department of health's website.
