3 From Newport Facing Cocaine, Marijuana Distribution Charges

Newport police say they seized 40 grams of cocaine, 489 packages of THC edibles, a half pound of marijuana, 21 THC vape pens, and more.

NEWPORT, RI — Three Newport residents were arrested Thursday after police said they were caught with large amounts of cocaine and marijuana.

Kevin Smyth, 26, Ethan Smyth, 19, and Stephanie Grafals, 25, were arrested after Newport police said they searched two locations connected to a drug investigation. Police said they seized 40 grams of cocaine, 489 packages of THC edibles, a half pound of marijuana, 21 THC vape pens, 6 vials of vape oil, $2,589 in cash, and several pieces of drug paraphernalia.

"Some of these products are becoming increasingly popular among young teens in the city," Newport police said in a news release. "Great work by our Detectives and Patrolman who continue to work diligently to keep our citizens safe!"

Smyth was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver schedule I/II controlled substances, one count of possession with intent to deliver of 5 kilograms of marijuana, and obstructing an officer in the execution of their duties. Smyth faces the same charges, except for the obstruction charge. Grafals was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver schedule I/II controlled substances and one count of possession of a schedule I-V controlled substance.
